If you’re struggling with large amounts of credit card debt or other unsecured debt and have fallen behind on some of your payments, you are likely to be plagued by stress and worry by this time. The effects of debt problems can leak out into every part of your life and cause problems with your personal relationships and possibly even your health. Can you still remember what it was like to get a good night’s sleep?

And then the phone calls started…
As if what you were going through wasn’t bad enough already, then your phone started ringing at all hours of the day with persistent and harassing debt collection calls from your creditors, asking when you were going to pay the money that you owe them. After about six months, your creditors will usually turn your account over to a debt collection agency.
At that point, things can become even worse for you. Their phone representatives are usually very aggressive and may think nothing of lying to you about the possible consequences of your failure to pay, or even get just plain rude and insulting. That is what they do for a living, and some are very good at it. Their goal is to harass and scare you into paying them, as the debt collection agencies only get paid if they collect money from you.
What can you do to stop debt collection calls and get some peace and sanity back into your life?
The answer is generally to hire a debt professional to get involved in your debt situation. For instance, hiring a debt settlement company to negotiate with your creditors on your debts can, in time, reduce the number of calls to a tolerable level. The debt settlement company will establish a frequent and consistent level of communication on your behalf with your creditors.
Alternatively, credit counseling agencies have close ties with the credit card companies and, in contrast to debt settlement companies, work with them rather than against them in constructing a consumer’s debt management plan (DMP).
So enrolling in a DMP will bring the collection calls to a stop. Hiring a lawyer will also free you from the debt collection calls, as the lawyer’s office will assume the task of communicating with your creditors.
